Camera Tracking in DaVinci Resolve Fusion Without a Ground Plane

  • Brian Morse

How do you set up a 3D coordinate system in DaVinci Resolve Fusion when there’s no visible ground plane? In this tutorial, I show multiple camera tracking and coordinate alignment techniques in Fusion for shots where the floor is never visible—a common problem in interior VFX shots. You’ll learn how to properly align 3D space in Fusion, place objects on beds and walls, and rebuild scale, orientation, and ground position using point clouds, planes, and real-world proportions—all using Fusion’s built-in Camera Tracker.

This workflow is ideal for VFX artists, filmmakers, and YouTube creators working on interior scenes, bedroom shots, or any camera track with limited geometry.
